Draw down the moon

Harness the energy of the moon with this moving meditation.

Last week was a busy one. I had a lot of things to do and a lot of energy in which to do them. I was feeling PRODUCTIVE! But in a manic, chaotic way! If I did't rein in some of my energy, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to channel it properly, efficiently, or effectively.

Luckily, I have a tool in my toolbox for moments like this. It's a meditation technique I learned from my teacher JJ Gormley and another teacher I frequently take classes from - Chase Bossart. Both were long-time students of the late TKV Desikachar. My most powerful meditative experiences have come from being guided through their moving meditations. In general, the idea is to choose an object (usually something in nature) to meditate on. The qualities of that object can be drawn into the body through visualization and movement.

So, on one particular morning last week when I knew I need to find peace and calm, I employed this technique and chose the moon as my object of meditation. For me, the moon has calming and soothing qualities. And in the midst of my practice, the intention/mantra that came to me was, "I am CALMLY productive." It was exactly what I needed and it set the perfect tone for the rest of my busy day and week.

What will you draw down from the moon?
