Grab a glass of water, and drink to your health.
If you're feeling a bit sluggish from four months of quarantine and Covid stress, then it may be time to start eating healthier and detoxing. Banishing toxins from the body refreshes health and enhances energy and the immune system. In order to help the detox process, it is important to maintain a high fiber intake and drink a lot of water. This combination can help move toxins out of the body. Fiber helps trap toxins in the colon and prepare them for removal. Drinking water obviously makes you have to use the bathroom more often during the day, flushing out the system and keeping the intestines moving.
Ideally, you should strive to drink about half your body weight in ounces of water daily. If you are detoxing, though, you should try to increase your water intake by 10-15 ounces more than that. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you would be drinking around 85 ounces of water per day. That's about 2/3 of a gallon of water.
If you aren't drinking enough water, you may feel some adverse effects, which can include:
Dizziness or Lightheadedness
Many times, we don't connect these symptoms with dehydration, but they can be alleviated by just drinking a glass of water or two.
Here are some tips to help you meet your daily water quota:
Start your day with hot/warm water with lemon
Carry a refillable water bottle at all times
Drink 2 glasses of water with each meal - sipping between bites
Drink a glass of water after each trip to the bathroom
Drink herbal tea
Freeze lemon, limes, and/or orange peels in your ice cubes to add to your water for a treat
Flavor your water with fruit
Have one glass of water every hour on the hour
Drink a big glass of water at every transitional time of the day: upon waking up, before leaving for work, when you sit down for work, etc.
When you feel a craving for something junky, drink a glass of water first
Add drinking water to your daily skincare regimen - drink, cleanse, moisturize, drink again
